08694

Postby pmh_74 » 19 Apr 2010 12:28

08694 was started up for the first time in preservation on 14 April. This announcement was delayed until after the GCR diesel gala to avoid the inevitable chuntering...

As expected the start up has highlighted a few other issues which will need to be resolved; restoration continues.

The owners would like to express their thanks to Kevin Cook for the power unit rebuild. Certainly recommended to other groups with engine problems.

Andrew,
Don't get carried away. At present the vacuum braking system is incomplete, and there are more important things to fix. It will haul a passenger train when the owners are ready for it to do so, not before.

Sincere apologies Phil, no idea what is involved with the loco.

Will "watch this space" as they say.

Best of luck with the project

Apologies not required... just "managing expectations".

Dusting off an old thread. The loco (finally!) entered service for the September diesel gala and has been used for a few shunting jobs since then, this will continue until it gets too cold and the loco will then be winterised as it has no antifreeze in it (and the cooling system still leaks a bit so it won't be getting any just yet).

One slight omission on the part of the owners is that neither of them remembered to note down the mileage reading before it entered service, so I thought I would ask here just on the offchance that someone noted it down, either in Booths or during its 4 years of not going anywhere much since it arrived at the GCR.

Yours, more in hope than anticipation!
Phil
