Forum Closure

The hosting deal for this website expires next month and it will not be renewed and so at some point after that the forum will go offline. This notice is a heads up to allow members time to put their heads together and set up a new forum if they so desire.

Thanks for the heads up Tim.
The obvious first question is can someone else take over the account and renew the contract so that we do not lose all of the history etc?

If this is not possible we will certainly need to have something else as I find the technical forum absolutely invaluable and would feel cut off from all the wealth of knowledge and experience that the group brings.

MacRat and myself have plans are in motion with Tim's support and blessing, lets see what can or can't be done.

This forum is so valuable to the Preservation Movement, we will do what we can as with the PD News site but bare with us as we have work, wifes and lives as well.....

What do users what from this forum if it continues? It's a lot of time and effort to sort this out. I'm prepared to put the work in if users still feel there is a need. Any suggestions for new sections and mods most appreciated....

I do hope that you continue to operate the forum as it is the only real place where we can exchange ideas and information in a more controlled manner. The reduction in postings of recent months does not mean that we have lost interest, just that people only ask questions when they actually need an answer rather than asking for the sake of it. It is a most useful resource which I do not believe can be replaced by WNXX or other similar places as we tend to stick to the point on here rather than going off at a tangent.

Agreed........

The technical section in particular cannot be replaced by WNXX whilst some of the others possibly could.

What sections do people want, don't want etc?

Just my thoughts but I guess that purely from looking at where the posts are, the ones to get rid of are the Railtours, volunteering, Appeals and liveries sections as these are generally covered by WNXX and as such are a hang over from the old forum with its much bigger list.

The technical section is the one I would want to keep if at all possible. It's a great way for us all to share experiences and issues.

The PD Forum will be staying and operate along the lines of the current set up. Many thanks to Tim Farmer for allowing this to happen. Thank you to those who have offered to help, I'll be in touch in due course.

Hope it remains a useful resource and exchange of advice and gen.
