Class 03 shunter D2084 (built Doncaster 1959), curently at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is being offered for sale for £24,000. She is in pristine condition, wearing BR green livery. She was restored to running order in 2003 from scrap condition. She is dual braked but the the Train Air brake is normally isolated, although it does work. She also retains high level air pipes for running with Southern region EMUs on Weymouth quay. If you have any queries about the loco, please contact me(Will Fry) on 01773 852 779 or 07580 684 166. Any viewings of the loco can be arranged through me and the owner.
Also available are numerous spares for the loco but these are available separately for £4,000.
I won't be available for contact over the half term week but feel free to leave me a message on here.

Will Fry on behalf of Mike Ward (Owner)

Aye, can buy at least a Class 20 for that...

Sounds like a good'un but 24,000 beer tokens is a tough bargain.

Im afraid I can only advertise what the owner says. Its his loco and he puts whatever price tag on it he wishes.

I personally think that you should alter your signature, as seeing as you're acting as some kind of agent regarding the sale of this loco, then you're not really advertising the fact that the loco (all 24K of it) isn't ........

"One careful lady owner from new, never been raced of rallied"

I mean...."03 Thrasher"..... it's just an observation

You may be surprised and even laugh at the tag price of that Class 03, but Ken Ryder sold a 03 shunter last year for a figure very close to one presently for sale (if memory serves correct)

I was surprised at the time he commanded such a high price but someone brought the working dual braked example for the asking price.

There is some serious money to be made in the preservation scene nowadays if you are in the right place at the right time.

But even so, it is an amazing asking price. Having bought a couple of locos, restored and sold one of them, I know only too well the figure stated above is at the top end of the scale. Fair play if he can get it though!

The only reason pres lines buy 03/04's is because they have a 25/30mph top speed, that way if a kettle pops its cork/shears a lube pump pin etc etc on a shuttle type train it can deputise for said kettle but,and its a big but,if you run one of these all day at line speed you will muller the bottom end,run the risk of overheating it and slipping a liner whilst revving the bollox off it,trust me as Ive just witnessed it on an engine I rebuilt 12 months ago (I wasnt driving it) :!: why they command such a high price is beyond me but iam sure someone will tell me,
P.S Ant,I knew Ken was selling his for close to that price but did he get said price for it :?:

I would of thought a 03 like an 08 would be an ideal shunting loco, its ex-BR and can do slow speed passenger trains

Was that the shunter M.D.H.B No36 by any chance??? if so what a waste of effort doing a through overhaul it just so it can get trashed, might of well not bothered to overhaul in the first place it if thats all that was going to happen to it!

I believe he got a price above 20k but the final figure I would expect is between old Ken Ryder and who was the extremely poor bloke/group who bought it off him.

I can imagine the scene that followed the sale, old Ken Ryder smiling from ear to ear thinking "hahahaha Sucker!!!" while some poor broke bum stood next to him thinking "What the hell have I just gone and done??? the wife is going to kill me!!!!"

Im not sure if the new owner would like it publicising so i'll leave it to them what they want to say. But I do know where its going it should be very well looked after and treated well.
